FOOD Reminders
The food sign-up will be posted several weeks before each EOU. Please sign up promptly. The EOU coordinator will usually suggest some recipes or websites to reference and may even suggest particular dishes. Families can also choose to prepare period foods that are not on the list.
The directions for the sign-up will differ for each EOU, but the general idea is that each family should sign-up for two items, occasionally three if signing up for small things. For examples, a family might sign up for a main dish and then something small or sign up for both a side dish and dessert. In general, plan your dish to serve 8-10 people, roughly. Families know their own budget and cooking skills. The size of your family and whether you have invited guests will also impact how much food you should prepare. The co-op provides water and lemonade as well as paper goods.
Families should bring their own serving utensils. If the type of dish isn't obvious, the name of the food (or ingredients) on small cards adds to the celebration. For lunchtime EOUs, you can bring your food in a crockpot, if appropriate. You can also cook something upstairs in the kitchen oven or microwave or use the refrigerator but you will have to coordinate with others who need the oven or microwave.
Parents with small children will go through the food line first. Be sure your children take appropriate portions so that we can all enjoy the food. It's perfectly fine to get seconds or thirds once everyone has gone through the line. At the end of the EOU, don't forget to take home your dishes.
If you bring allergy-friendly food that wouldn't typically be free of an ingredient (such as bringing cake that is gluten-free), label it accordingly.
